Volunteer with Us to Serve Pregnant and New Moms!
As National Mentoring Month comes to a close, are you looking for a way to serve others? At One by One we have many opportunities for you to help change the life of a pregnant or new mom and her baby. Of course, mentoring tops our list, but there are many other ways you can join us. Keep reading to see how you can help!
Become a Mentor
We’re always looking for Christian women who want to join us as mentors. We provide free training and give you all the supplies you need to mentor a new mom. Your job is to text/talk with your mom weekly, meet with her monthly, and let us know how it’s going. We give you lesson plans for each meeting and activities for you to give your mom so she can support her baby’s social, language, emotional, and motor skill development.
We have in-person mentors in Memphis, Dallas, San Antonio, and some smaller communities in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Kansas. We also have a virtual program where women anywhere in the US can become a mentor and serve a mom anywhere in the US by meeting over platforms such as Zoom and FaceTime.
Do you speak Spanish? We also serve Spanish-speaking moms and love to match them with mentor who speak their native language!
Become a Prayer Partner
Each mentor has a prayer partner who prays with and for her and her mom. Mentors may ask a friend or family member to serve as a prayer partner, but some mentors enjoy being paired with someone new.
Become a Church Coordinator
Each church that has a mentoring group has a volunteer coordinator who serves as a liaison between the mentors at that church and our staff. Coordinators help us recruit women at their churches to serve as mentors, spread the word about events and curriculum updates, and encourage mentors and check-in to make sure mom/mentor matches are going well (and contact us if they’re not).
Bring a Mentor Group to Your Church
If you’re a church leader, you can bring a mentor group to your church. There’s no charge – we just ask that you help us identify someone to serve as a volunteer coordinator to help us recruit women from your congregation to serve as mentors.
Volunteer with Office or Event Staff
Our offices occasionally need help with sorting donations of baby clothing, counting change from coin container donations, helping with large mailings, putting curriculum bags together, or helping with events. You can email us here to see if we have these needs in your area.
Host a Baby Shower or Coin Container Drive
If you’re part of a church, school, civic, social, or family group looking for a community service project, we would love to work with you. You can host a “baby shower” where group members collect new or gently used baby clothing, baby equipment , diapers, wipes, nonperishable food items, and other necessities for us to give to moms in need. You can also hand out our coin containers to your group and ask members to collect spare change for us.
Host Us at Your Workplace or Civic/Social Group
One by One is happy to provide a speaker to tell you more about our organization and how your members can get involved!
Donate
Of course you can always support One by One with a financial donation. We make it easy to donate through our website here. Businesses can donate directly, sponsor events, or include us if you offer matching donations to employee gifts.
