Mother's Day is Extra Special at One by One
Mother’s Day is special to many of us as we honor our moms as the women who were always there for us – kissing boo boos, mending broken hearts, cheering from the stands, and supporting us through thick and thin throughout childhood and into adulthood as we formed families of our own.
Many of us wonder how we would have made it without the love and support of our moms, grandmoms, and aunts.
The unfortunate reality is that not everyone has the love and support of a mom or mother-figure. Many One by One moms are alone: many have lost their moms, are estranged from their moms, or live far away, so they lack the support from their moms that they need and crave.
That’s where One by One comes in.
Consider some of these stories of One by One moms:
“She has little support, so the love and support she receives from One by One is so valuable. The prayers, the encouragement, the Blessing Days, the resources – it’s all she has. OBO is life-changing for her.” – from a OBO mentor
“She is so young. Her mom died during Covid. Her dad is not in the picture. Her aunt took her in, but they are not close. She texted me to thank me for calling her and said, ‘I’m really looking forward to getting closer to you. It gets hard when you don’t have anybody to talk to.’” – from a OBO mentor
“After suffering 12 miscarriages, I didn’t think I would become a mom. Then I got pregnant again. I wanted a mentor so I could feel that closeness with God and camaraderie with someone who has been there before me, who knew what was coming, and could help me answer questions I didn’t know the answer to. I didn’t have my mom or dad in my corner – I didn’t have my grandparents in my corner – because they had all passed on.” – a OBO mom
One by One mentors stand in the gap for our moms by providing friendship and support alongside parenting and child development information. And our mentors focus on demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ, ensuring that each mom knows He has a plan for her life and a desire for a relationship with her.
Our mentors serve our moms throughout their pregnancies and their children’s early years, often forming strong friendships that last years beyond their time in our program. Some of our moms recently stated the following:
“I expected to get some helpful tips. I didn’t expect it to be so personal and relational. It’s been just wonderful.” – a OBO mom
“We were expecting to see my beautiful baby girl, but then we had a traumatic birth experience. My mentor brought the light of Christ into the situation, helping me to still see God’s hand on us and on my child.” – a OBO mom
“As a new mom, I worried about so many things. My mentor is so helpful! I can truly say this program has been a blessing in a time when I had no idea what to do and felt so overwhelmed.” – a OBO mom
